Learn how to set up the Luminex LumiSplit 2.10 DMX splitter for reliable DMX512 lighting control. Step-by-step instructions for rack/truss mounting, port zone selection, and RDM management.

Quick answer

Mount the LumiSplit 2.10 in your rack or truss, connect the DMX input, configure each port's A/B zone, and enable RDM for remote fixture management.

Why port zone selection matters

The LumiSplit 2.10 offers 10 DMX ports with A/B zone selection, allowing you to run two independent DMX universes from one unit. Without proper zone assignment, fixtures on the same line may conflict or fail to respond.

RDM: manage fixtures remotely

RDM (Remote Device Management) lets you discover, configure, and monitor DMX fixtures from the console. The LumiSplit 2.10 passes RDM data, but you must enable it on each port. Note that some older fixtures may not support RDM, causing communication errors if enabled.

Step-by-step setup

  1. Mount the unit: Secure the LumiSplit 2.10 in a 19-inch rack or attach it to a truss using the included mounting brackets. Ensure ventilation slots are unobstructed. Common mistake: mounting with ports facing down can trap dust and cause overheating.
  2. Connect DMX input: Plug your DMX console or controller into the DMX IN port using a 5-pin XLR cable. For long runs, use a quality cable with proper termination. Check that the input cable is not damaged; a faulty input can cause intermittent dropouts on all ports.
  3. Assign port zones: For each output port, set the A/B switch to A or B depending on which DMX universe you want that port to carry. Ports set to A will mirror the input; ports set to B can carry a separate universe (requires a second DMX input on the B IN port). Common mistake: leaving all ports on A when you intend to run two universes—only one universe will be active.
  4. Enable RDM per port: Press the RDM button on each port to enable Remote Device Management. The LED will light up when active. Use your console's RDM discovery to find and configure connected fixtures. If a fixture does not appear in RDM, disable RDM on that port—some older fixtures will not respond and can cause the port to hang.
  5. Terminate unused ports: Attach a 120-ohm DMX terminator to any unused output port to prevent signal reflections and data corruption. Forgetting termination on an open port can cause intermittent flickering on the entire DMX line.
